EXCLUSIVE: Harshvardhan Rane reveals Sanam Teri Kasam’s REAL budget; says, “I don’t know who has given this figure of Rs 25 crore”

Harshavardhan Rane is on cloud nine as his and Mawra Hocane’s 2016 romantic drama Sanam Teri Kasam has re-released in theatres. The film is breaking box office records and recently reports surfaced that it had broken even with its budget. However, during an exclusive telephonic conversation with Bollywood Bubble, Harsh revealed the film had broken even a couple of days ago. How? Well, Rs 25 crore is not the real budget of STK. Harvardhan Rane reveals Sanam Teri Kasam’s actual budget

When asked how he feels given that the total box office earnings of Sanam Teri Kasam (original run – Rs 9 crore, 3-day re-release – around Rs 16 crore) has now equalled the film’s budget, Harshvardhan Rane told us, “I’m breaking this news only to you – I don’t know if people know this, the original budget of the film was Rs 14 crore. I don’t know who has given this figure of Rs 25 crore on the internet, but Rs 14 Cr was the actual budget of the film.”

With Harsh making this revelation, we can clearly say that Sanam Teri Kasam is indeed a success as it has now earned a Rs 25 crore against a budget of Rs 14 crore. This means the film has not only broken even but has also made a profit of Rs 11 crore.

He continued, “When people ask me, ‘What is your dream role?’ My answer forever has been, ‘I want to play the role of a profitable actor.’ And that’s exactly what I want to do. I’ll not mind waiting for nine more years, but that’s the only role I want to play.”

Harsh on fans watching STK in theatres despite OTT availability

When asked about fans heading to theatres to watch the 9 year out despite it being available for free viewing on YouTube as well as on JioCinemas, Harshavardhan Rane said, “Why you fall in love with someone, there is no logic to it.  What all you do for your loved one, there is no logic to it. And how your love affair turns out into a beautiful story or a very not-so-beautiful story is also not logical. Similarly, a result of a film is absolutely, there is very less logic… I will not say it’s logic less, there is less logic. There is a difference. It can’t be logicless because it’s commerce, it’s business. There is some logic to it. But it is less logical because it is not only quantitative data, it is also qualitative data.”

Harshavardhan Rane continued, “And that’s what I have to appreciate and study as a psychology student because we have to depend and rely on qualitative data as well while doing quantitative studies. So, life can’t be all about numbers and statistics, it has to do a lot with the grey area. It has to do a lot with our hormones, the weather, the situation, the environment, what’s happening around us, our culture, our past experience, emotion, motivation, what kind of stimulus is it, what screen size is it… As you said, it was already available on a 5-inch screen, but now people are watching it on a 10,000-inch screen (70 mm screens aka theatres). It is a combination of a lot of things.”

Harsh: Even Hollywood doesn’t succeed 100 out of 100 times

He added, “And that is why you cannot put a finger on any one reason. When people start talking and saying, make a picture like this, it will do. It is the most foolish thing to say, make a picture like this, it will work. Whenever we start saying, ‘This is how a film will work, that is how a film will work,’ we are just trying to fool ourselves; because if anybody alive on this planet knew how a film works, he would succeed 100 out of 100 times. But even Hollywood doesn’t succeed 100 out of 100 times.”

Harsh conclude by stating, “It could be the biggest production house, but they also fail so many times. So, it clearly shows one thing, that we know some and we don’t know some. So, let’s be modest about this art form, and let’s give respect to the process, the timing, the people, and intention, and hard work.
